Welcome to 2025!
A radical new start for NEUROMANCERS...
Hello newsletter subscribers!
In true neurodivergent fashion, like that creative project you half-started a few months ago, we very unfortunately have allowed this newsletter to become lost in space and (crip) time. But we are back to welcome you into what the Gregorian calendar calls 2025! We are now a quarter into the 21st century and, akin to every other century in human history, it feels very much like a dumpster fire.
Wherever on the globe you are reading this newsletter from, I’d like to send out my solidarity. Life is hard, but it’s an honour to have you still with us on earth and as part of the NEUROMANCERS newsletter community. I invite you to pause your doom-scrolling, tip-tapping, and message-checking and take a moment to NEUROMANCE: to fall in love with your (neuro)divergence.
Note something that you are proud of today. It can be ‘small’. It can be ‘big’. But most of all, allow it to be.
Today, I’m proud of NEUROMANCERS. I founded this organisation in 2021, when I was just fifteen (yep!). I recently had my nineteenth birthday (I’m am fully in denial about adulthood and personally still identify as a fetus) and I’m attempting to start this new year by sitting with the achievements I and NEUROMANCERS have accomplished to date. Running a community organisation as a disabled, neurodivergent teenager has been a huge (and ongoing!) challenge. It has been far from easy. But this organisation — and your contribution to it, however small — has also been a lighthouse. For myself and for so many others.
"[NEUROMANCERS is a] space I can just be, in whatever space I'm in mentally, financially, physically. A place where it feels like my complexities and “abnormalities” [based on oppressive system standards], are not only welcome but celebrated, space is made for them. I get to say the shit I’m usually too afraid to say here without fear of judgement. Y’all have been a lifeline for me on days I didn’t have much hope."
This month, I have two announcements to share with you.
#1 — To celebrate going into our fourth year of NEUROMANCERS, I’m excited to share our first in-person event…NEUROMANCERS Day!
I’m going to be honest…we have not sold enough tickets for this to realistically go ahead yet. I really need your help. There’s so much I envision for this year of NEUROMANCERS…support spaces, care packages, workshops, more in-person events, collaborations, written resources…(and we welcome your suggestions too, reply and let me know what you’d like to see from us!).
None of what we are dreaming of is possible without your support. If you are in or around London, grab a ticket for yourself and a comrade. Can’t make it? Drop us some coins to help us get closer to our fundraising goals!!
#2 — If you want to get stuck in to NEUROMANCERS organising this year by joining our volunteer community, then applications are open until the 20th of January. It’s a short form that asks for a few details and answers to three questions, but if writing is a struggle reach out and we can help you apply a different way.
At the moment, we are particularly looking for some more Media & Admin Coordinators…if you want to help make sure this newsletter stays alive, you love memes, and are chronically online we’d love to hear from you! Download our info document to learn more about this role and others!!
P.S. We are going through a re-launch at the moment, so just a reminder that our website and Instagram handle are now @neuromancers.org.uk and www.neuromancers.org.uk. Hope you like the new design (it’s very pink!!)
IN PEER SOLIDARITY,
Aiyana x
